Music at St George’s is a celebration of the love and splendour of God in creation, the centrality of Jesus as Redeemer and Saviour, and the renewing power of the Holy Spirit.
Music is an integral part of the liturgy at St George’s. Our 4-part choir sings at the Solemn Sung Mass on Sundays at 9.30 as well as at the major liturgical feasts throughout the year. The music consists of a mass setting (which varies), hymns, psalms sung mainly to Anglican chant, a sung creed, propers and a communion anthem. In all but the last two the choir is joined by the congregation.
Our choir is small in number but dedicated and of a high standard. We rehearse on Saturday mornings in the Parish Hall from 9.30 to 10.30am. New members are very welcome. An ability to read music is desirable but not essential. More important is a ‘Can do’ attitude to learning music quickly, having a voice that blends well with others, and a desire to worship God through music.
The Gregorian Chant Group meets on Wednesday evenings in the Parish Hall from 7.30 to 8.30pm. See separate section. New members are very welcome.
